There are makeup brands that just know how to do sleek. Make Beauty is one of them. I’ve seen the simple black-and-white packaging with the long, lean logo, and I immediately thought of how well it represents New York (the edgy part, like Vogue and Fashion Week). I was super excited to get my hands on samples of Make Silk Cream Lipstick in Taffy (full-sized at USD 25) and Make Matte Finish Eyeshadow in Alabaster (full-sized at USD 25).
Quick Specs: Full-sized Lipstick at 0.12 oz / 3.4 g ; Full-sized Eye Shadow at 0.10 oz / 2.8 g ; made in the USA (New York City, to be precise!) ; paraben-free ; no animal testing
Let’s start with the eyeshadow! Make Beauty’s Matte Finish Shadow has a silky feel. The shadow is finely milled, so I found it easy to pick up with my shader brush as well as to blend with other shadows. The color I have, Alabaster, serves as an excellent base color. The site describes it as “a soft eggshell with peach undertones”. I’d describe it as a cream color with a hint of peachy-pink. Even though the color I have is light, I do notice that the shadow has good pigmentation. Swatched on my arm, the shade stands out a little bit more, but it completely disappears on my lids. Longevity is at around five hours for me before it starts to crease. I would recommend a primer to extend wear time. BTW, this formula can be used wet/dry.
The full-sized version looks like this:
Make Beauty’s Taffy Silk Cream Lipstick initially had me imagining a sheer, creamy shade, but I was surprised to find out that it was matte and had more opaque than I expected. According to the Make website, the color is “a medium pink with purple undertones”. I’ll go for a mauvish medium pink. It’s the kind of color that’s undoubtedly pink and visible, but it’s hugely wearable in everyday settings. The color doesn’t wash me out.
This lippie is creamy for a matte finish lipstick. It also has a smooth glide and notable moisture level, again, for a matte lipstick. I get 2-3 hours comfortable wear, but the color stays intact even after that time frame. The full-sized version looks like this:
Verdict: From these two products that I’ve tried, I’ve gotten a good impression of this brand. Make Beauty has that high-end appearance and delivery that I highly appreciate. I want to explore their darker lip color shades as they look so luxurious. Their eyeshadows come in some unique colors that would be fun to experiment with. You’ll also be glad to learn that 10% of their sales are donated to the We See Beauty Foundation, empowering female entrepreneurs in the US.
