Quite unintentional, but it seems like my eye cream choices are taking on the botanical trend. After finishing up a bottle of Nuxe, I’ve embraced the rosy side of things with Organic Doctor Rose Otto Eye Serum (USD 23.99; not available in the Philippines; bought from Vitamin World).

Are there moments where you find yourself looking for something different? Something out of the ordinary? In terms of makeup purchases, I satisfy that little “wanderlust” by switching up beauty brands from time to time. Trendy picks are all well and good, but the basics are not to be missed. And what could get more simple and true than the need to have groomed brows at the very least? Enter the Muji Eyebrow Pencil:

While the first quarter of 2017 may be done, I am still sorting through my 2016 holiday haul. Naturally, beauty-loving friends went a little Black Friday gaga and pooled our US purchases for shipping to Manila. The first of my buys making a debut for review here is the Intro to Tarte Deluxe Discovery Set (USD 10). *Note that this is a limited edition set for Black Friday that is no longer being sold, but there are resellers still offering this set.

Am I starting a love affair with colorful makeup? Gosh, I hope so! I did experiment with whimsical shades of blue and green a few years ago, but they’re not exactly embraced with open arms in the corporate world. And so I’ve always dubbed them as “editorial colors”. These shades would earn a few stares, and I would get self-conscious. However, the 2010’s make it a-okay to flaunt bold beauty, so I picked up the Zoeva Love is a Story Eyeshadow Palette (PHP 1,106 from Sephora.ph) to have fun with.

Does functionality play a major part in the decision to purchase/use a certain piece of makeup? To me, it is a huge factor in determining which products land in my everyday makeup kit. So while I love a good pot of gel eyeliner, the handy twist-up version is what I’m more likely to reach for when I’m in a hurry (which is most of the time). So let’s see if the new Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Matte Gel Eye Crayons in (Earth)quake and (Brown)ie (USD 25) can roll with the punches.
