This month’s empties post is on the modest side. It is the result of my trying to do some damage to the hoarder’s stockpile I have going on. The process started during the beginning of lockdown last year, when I realized that it might be harder to go out and get new things. It was the perfect opportunity for “out with the old”, so here goes:
If I had to name one category of makeup that I find hardest to resist buying more of, highlighter is the obvious one that comes to mind. And since I’ve had the pleasure of discovering top shelf stuff like TheBalm and Becca early on, I consider my standards reasonably high. I sprung for Maybelline Master Chrome Highlighter in Molten Rose Gold (PHP 499) with an “oh what the heck” attitude when it went on sale, and I have no regrets.

Funny story about this concealer purchase: I was on vacation when I saw Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer in Light (PHP 399 / USD 9.99) on display. There were so many raves that I just had grab one, even if the price was roughly equivalent to PHP 600. And then, what do ya know, it officially launched in the Philippines two months later and PHP 200 cheaper. So, yeah, the joke’s on me… Is it at least worth the unintentional splurge?

I need to look at my stash once a month to see how many hoarded body and skin care products are still up for use. When I do, it reminds me to go on a temporary ban to finish up what’s left. Yup, it’s because I’m a sucker for sales. *shrugs* But before we get lost in hoarder issues, let’s have a look at what I actually did manage to finish:
Clockwise From Top: Bath and Body Works, Welcos, and l’Occitane
The first time I was really and truly wowed at the prowess of a mascara was when I got my hands on a tube of Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies. I’ve been a Volum’ Express since their first few editions were released, and I always loved how it didn’t take much effort to get noticeable length and volume. Then The Falsies changed the game with unprecedented levels (at the time) of luscious lashes for less, and I went through about 3 repurchases of the beloved stuff.
Now, the beloved line is back at it again with Maybelline The Colossal Big Shot Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara in Very Black (USD 8.49). (Cue Celine Dion’s It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.)
